Project Overview
A private family retreat organised around shaded outdoor connections.
Doha Eco-Farm Retreat brings a private villa and its surrounding landscape together on a 2,500 m² plot outside Doha. The brief called for a family retreat with a 450 m² main building, a shaded swimming pool, a garden and a children’s play area.
The architectural and landscape design developed together, considering how the family would move between indoor rooms, covered outdoor spaces and the wider grounds.
The design question
How can a family retreat offer a meaningful outdoor experience in Doha’s extreme summer heat?
The proposal focused on the connections between destinations. Shaded routes, covered terraces and the relationship between built form and planting informed the organisation of the site.
These spaces establish a gradual transition from the privacy of the villa to the shared outdoor areas.

Alternative 02 · Selected scheme
Five massing studies explored different relationships between the villa, swimming pool and garden. Alternative 02 became the basis for the developed scheme.
Master plan and landscape
The landscape design covers the full 50 × 50 m site. The master plan coordinates the villa footprint with the pool, garden, children’s play area and circulation.
The design considers the grounds as a sequence of connected outdoor spaces, with different opportunities for family gathering, recreation and privacy.

Villa architecture
The 450 m² main building anchors the retreat. Its architectural design and floor plan developed alongside the master plan, allowing the building’s openings, terraces and outdoor-facing spaces to respond to the surrounding landscape.
The proposal explores the relationship between enclosed rooms and sheltered exterior spaces, keeping the experience of the grounds central to the villa’s organisation.
