A residential proposal for Bushehr that brings together planted terraces, filtered sunlight and a material palette inspired by the sea.
Living with the climate of Bushehr
Intense sunlight, high humidity and the textures and colors of the sea inform the project’s contemporary architectural language. Its central idea is to turn terraces into usable, planted, semi-outdoor spaces that extend everyday life beyond the interior.
Deep terraces, light-colored materials and greenery are used as design strategies intended to moderate solar exposure and improve climatic comfort.
A second skin for light and shade
On the southern façade, a perforated screen of white traditional Iranian Qazaqi brick filters sunlight and gives depth to the building’s envelope. White stone and full-height glazing complement this layer, balancing solid surfaces with transparency.
Handcrafted blue tiles in selected façade and wall areas recall the sea. Their textured surfaces and the changing play of light and shadow bring a distinct sense of place to the composition.

Continuity between rooms and terraces
The interior reconsiders the relationship between rooms and terraces to create fluid spatial connections. Generous openings support daylight and opportunities for natural ventilation, while planted outdoor spaces extend the living environment.
Carefully positioned, deep terraces provide shade. Plants selected for resilience in Bushehr’s climate introduce greenery to the façade and views from within the residences.
A shared landscape above the city
The roof garden extends the project’s outdoor living strategy. Planted edges frame a sequence of spaces for lounging, dining and gathering, connected by a central walkway.
The roof becomes an inhabited part of the building, continuing the relationship between greenery, shade and everyday residential life.

Independent competition design
I developed the competition proposal independently, taking responsibility for the façade, interior design and roof garden as a coordinated architectural response. The project was selected as a competition finalist in 2025.
