La Colina Hotel

Spain · 2026

Reimagining a hotel’s next chapter.

A focused architectural vision for the revival of an existing hotel in Spain, connecting arrival, landscape and selected interiors through a warm Mediterranean identity.

A new chapter for La Colina

La Colina is an older hotel in Spain that had most recently been used as student accommodation. Following its purchase, the client wanted to explore its potential as a renewed hospitality destination.

The brief called for a focused architectural vision for an investor and sales presentation. I concentrated the study on the façade and arrival, pools and landscape, reception and lobby, and one representative guest room and bathroom.

Starting with the arrival

The façade and entrance established the architectural direction for the wider concept. Stone arches, warm finishes and planting give the approach a more welcoming character while working with the identity of the existing building.

This material language became a reference for the outdoor spaces and interiors, helping the selected interventions read as parts of the same hotel.

A garden that connects the experience

The proposed roof garden combines a new swimming pool with spaces for dining, relaxation and wellness. The intention was to keep the landscape dominant, with shaded structures and planting connecting the different activities.

A separate proposal reimagines the existing pool area through lounge spaces, a garden restaurant and a closer relationship between the water and surrounding hospitality spaces.

Choosing open space

An early study explored an additional guest-room volume on the former basketball-court area. Its implications for existing rooms, views and nearby hospitality spaces led to a decision with the client not to pursue that option.

The alternative develops the area as a landscaped social and recovery garden, with outdoor exercise, shaded seating and space to unwind.

Carrying the identity inside

The reception and lobby concept works from the available existing plans, retaining the layout and the locations of the elevator and staircase. Stone arches, travertine, wood and warm lighting transform the atmosphere while connecting it to the exterior concept.

A representative guest experience

The guest room and bathroom extend the same palette into a more intimate setting. The concept balances a relaxed atmosphere with practical wardrobe and luggage storage, material variation and a spacious walk-in shower.

A focused concept package

The outcome is a coordinated set of architectural concepts and visualisations for the client’s investor and sales presentation. My work connected the brief, existing building information, design alternatives and targeted modelling across the selected spaces.

The photographs document the existing condition; the renders depict the proposed concept. Technical design, engineering, material specifications and construction detailing sit beyond this phase.
